Tip #1: Consider the time of day and how it will affect your photos.

The best time of day for outside photos for spring or summer would be between the morning hours of 8-10 am or in the afternoon between 2-5pm. You want to avoid photos outside when the sun is directly overhead between 11am to 1pm, as this will cause harsh shadows under the eyes, nose, and chin (leaving your photos unflattering). Overcast skies are the best for lighting and will make your subject look great; however the sky won’t look very scenic or picturesque. Avoid planning your ceremony late in the day. We often see ceremonies planned an hour before sunset, (especially in the fall) but unfortunately this only gives about 10 minutes for good lighting. After that point, the photographer is re-adjusting the camera settings for each shot. Your raw images are more likely to be dark and/or grainy and inconsistent- which will require much more time for editing. At this time, it's too dark outside for formal photos. So remember, choosing the best time of day will give you the best Life Images!
